New fox sporran with a flip top brass cantle

This is a rebagged sporran that I fashioned a flip up cantle for. The pelt is from a recycled fur coat and the bag is based on an inexpensive ebay sporran that was reworked using recylced scrap leather and a brass cantle.

I’d say it turned out rather well!

Very cool and has me thinking about sporran making

    20180308_172628.jpg

My cousins in Norway sent this fox pelt to me and I have been trying to figure out a really cool use for it. Looking at your DIY sporran, which is awesome, has me thinking I might have an idea on what to use this for. Thanks for the inspiration.

You are very welcome and thanks for the kind words. The sharing of ideas is one of the best byproducts of this forum. I see at least three sporrans in this pelt.

Lovely sporran, the brass coloured cantle fits very well with the fur which I think is paticularly beautiful. Have you used magnets to ensure the sporran stays closed, or some other method I can't quite see?

I actually did not use a closer on this piece. I simply added enough leather on the back of the sporran to accomodate the cantle and make the back stiff enough to hold the flap closed. The added leather acts as a hinge of sorts.

I'll try and post some images of it later but I hope this explains the concept a little at least.

Here are some sketches that might help. If you blow the page up to 11 x 17 they should be to scale for this sporran.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers.
