    Sgian Dubh for

I have a question that has probably already been discussed but I am hoping for some thoughts.

I have an evening event - Tartan Ball - to attend but I only have a "day-wear" style sgian dubh made with bog oak and antler - it is great, handmade, and nicer than anything else I could afford. It is the work of our very own Matt Shep!

I am wondering if that is something best left at home or to be worn?

I will be in black tie but my feeling is that this is representing the best I have and I wonder if it should be included. I don't really worry about going without one but it seems like I should be wearing one for this event.

The "best you have" is never inappropriate. Wear it with deep and natural pride, and watch the envious eyes.

Others will see your sgain as an extension of your tastes and pride in such a fine tool. I'd be proud to wear your sgain to tartan ball.

It really is a beautiful sgian. Shame on he who thinks ill of it!

Wear it and enjoy the event. Should I say "have a ball"?
