    Toories

I am putting a toorie on a bonnet and was trying to figure out what a good size would be. The one that was on it looked cheap and was so big that it looked off. Any suggestions?

I just went and measured. The original, red toorie on my Balmoral is about a 2" diameter. It looks about right, maybe a bit on the large-ish side, but not by much.

The replacement, blue toorie (for the Louisville Pipe Band) on my Glengarry is about a 1" diameter. I believe those were obtained through Hobby Lobby ($3 for a bag of 20?). It looks a bit on the small-ish side for the hat.

A toorie would probably look fine anywhere between those measurements, depending on the size of the hat it's going on.

    FWIW, I wear hat size 7 5/8.

My original was a 2 1/2 inch on a size 7 1/8 hat. It looked like a novelty/costume piece. The hat itself is very well made, but the size of the toorie was killing it.

The toorie on my Glengarry is 1 inch (7 3/8 band). If the cat rips it off in a moment of play, I will be okay with a regular cap.

Everybody probably already knows this, but the touries on Glengarries are much smaller than the ones on Balmorals.

Once in a blue moon I'll see a Balmoral tourie on a Glengarry and it just doesn't look right... and you can't fold the Glengarry nice and flat.

They traditionally don't vary with hat size, just with the type of hat.

It's easy to trim the toorie to suit your own taste.

Some here are wearing their TOS as issued, others have trimmed the toories down to microdots

Making one of these, including the trimming, its a 5 min process at most. Say 7 to mount it on the piece of headgear, if I could find that large eye needle that was just right here......

Ahh, no one's advocating running over conservative politicians, that's alright then.

Interesting info on the toorie shaving there, is the smaller one traditional or some other reason?

Nothing about tradition, it was just that the one on my green bonnet was abnormally large.
