Have you thought about Saffron or Mustard Hose? Bet it would be smashing.

No, but it does sound like a good idea. I have been trying to find some mustard hose though because I think they would probably go well with the Black Watch, but I haven't found any yet.
Saffron sounds better for both to me, thanks.

I have a pair of House of Cheviot, Rannoch style Mustard hose and have had nothing but compliments about them......after my Maple Leaf tartan of course......I have learned something that is proving true and that is to FORGET MATCHING COLOURS ......The tartan, the hose, and the jacket and waist coat can and will stand on it's own .....cheers

I found this pic online, the mustard hose look a little bland to me but I think the real problem is not the hose but the shoes. Seems like the outfit would look better if the shoes were darker like the color of the sporran, or even better, darker like the color of his top.

Here are some that might look nice. Too loud maybe?

The green would not work with muted Gunn however. I'm thinking the red would be the safest bet to go with both.

I believe that top photo is of Xmarks' own IsaacW. Isaac looks sharp as always, and shoe color is certainally a matter of personal preference. However, Traditionalists might say that black is the way to go. See pix of the Duke of Rothesay for a good example.

I like the idea of pattern-top hose and agree that, of the options you present, red would be the way to go.

Yes I agree, Isaac does look very sharp.
Also I left out a couple of other choices, maybe the burgundy would be better.

I just can't decide , please give me some opinions on which one would work best with both kilts. Or at least which will go best with the Gunn muted.

Burgundy would be a very fine choice indeed, and IMHO, preferable even to the red.

    It's okay

I wouldn't stress. If it's your family tartan, then be proud. If it's any consolation, it's like my first kilt, the Smith Ancient. Fortunately it was only a US cheapie and I bought some Smith Modern (dark blue) and Smith Weathered (tan) for my wife to make me a set.

    Wear some plain green socks.

I have a MacKenzie weathered which is basically brown. While plain, a pop of colour really makes a difference in the outfit. Notice in your photos how your burgundy t-shirt pops out. Given that the weathered/muted/ ancient motifs were designed to be less ostentatious thatís the modern versions, I suspect that the whole idea was to tone down an outfit for a more low-key look. I think you have achieved that nicely.
