    George V interesting kilt

Continuing with the trend of posting about the late 19th and early 20th century Royal Family I thought I would throw this into the mix. It is George V and at first I thought it was a solid colour but I think my eyes decieved me and that there is a tartan but I cannot make it out. Anyone want to have a guess?

Also, can we take a moment to appreciate his shoes? They are fantastic! It is also interesting to see that he is not wearing garters or flashes.

It will take a better eye than mine to make out the tartan. He appears to wearing the same kilt here:

I think it's the same kilt/tartan he is wearing here - Hunting Stewart, which was a favourite of his judging from the number of photographs of him wearing it.

I believe the first two photos were taken on the same day. Everything in George's attire is the same (sporran, shoes, jacket) even the door in the background.

I can see that the Hunting Stewart tartan would look solid in some photos if the lighting is absorbed rather than reflecting in old photography techniques.
