    Carhartt Detroit jacket

    Hello All!

Has anyone got one of these lovely jackets if you have have you ever tried shrinking it?
A strange question I know! I've tried the medium which is ok in the chest but too small at the waist, the large on the other hand is yawge 50inch chest(I'm a 44) and slightly too big in the waist!
I like the look of the Detroit being a short jacket it ticks a few boxes but the sizing is well strange!
So if you've tried please shout out

    Thanks
    Andy

I have the vest version of that jacket. Basically the same thing, but without sleeves. I agree, their sizing is strange. It's snug at the bottom around my hips, but tends to bulge out at my midsection, and is snug at the top. I have only worn it with a kilt once or twice (I bought it for doing barn chores on cool days). It's just a tad longer than I care for with a kilt, since I have to wear my sporran too low when it's zipped up.

I don't think the material can be shrunk since it's a "duck" canvas material. Tailoring would be the only way to adjust the fit, and that might be more trouble than it's worth. I've found better kilt-friendly fit from an Ike jacket.

    From a dealer's FAQ:

    2. How much will Carhartt® shrink after washing?
Prewashed garments will have minimal shrinkage, but garments that are not will have a maximum shrinkage of 3 to 5 percent as long as the laundering instructions are followed.

    also there is this one:

I doubt you can shrink it so much that you can't wear it, but it may or may not shrink enough to get what you were after.

Understood, though I suspect that the folks who wrote those things do have first hand experience - possibly a lot more than just some guy on the internet.
