    sad trimmed Seaforths sporran

It's sad when people have mutilated genuine military artifacts.

Here's what would have been a nice Seaforth Highlanders OR's sporran, had somebody not trimmed the hair down all the way to the size of the leather body underneath. The tassels were likewise cut down.

About the feather bonnet, hard to tell sometimes but the dicing looks red/white/black, while the Seaforth Highlanders (of Scotland) wore red/white/green dicing.

You must be confused, it is clearly listed as a "kilt scone", one that has just gone moldy!

Jokes aside, that is a travesty, what a horrific haircut.

I would guess that the haircut was done because the sporran was improperly stored, judging by the condition of the rest of it. It may have become a tangled, knotted mess. It could have been attacked by carpet beetles or bow bugs, so-called because they will eat bow hair on violin bows (traditional bows are made with horse hair if you didn't know). The good news is that they didn't toss the whole thing in the trash. Horse hair can be replaced and the sporran can be restored. It could be a fun project if you get the original parts cheap enough.

Whatever the reason, I do see cut-down horsehair sporrans on Ebay fairly regularly.

This one is a particularly extreme example.
