I had the privilage of helping to put together the four sets of uniforms on display at the Centre: Atholl, Balmoral, Duff, and Invercauld Highlanders.
Interesting comment in a Press & Journal article the previous day and repeated on BBC Radio 4 yesterday morning that ‘The majority of the items exhibited within come from the organisation’s 200-year-old archive – the society was formed in 1815, making it the oldest friendly society in the world.’
That statement is obviously incorrect; The Highland Society of London, founded in 1778 with braodly similar aims, is just one earlier organisation.
