    Scottish stag horn

Any idea where I could get a stag horn from a Scottish red deer that could be fashioned into a good looking handle for a sgian dubh? Or would one from a NE whitetail in the states work better?

My youngest son made my exisitng sgian dubh, but I want to step up the game. I have an old 6 pence piece to mount on the top.

    Thanks,

    Frank

One of the Etsy shops or eBay shops may be able to source some for you. Possibly may be able to convince one of the Scottish residents on our forum to do some leg work!

This site might be of help: http://www.highlandhorn.com/red-stag...e-antler/3.htm

They might even be able to help you find a piece that is the right diameter and will work well as a knife handle. Especially if you want to have the burl on the end to mount the coin on.

Don't know if you have contacted Highland Horn yet, but I have some experience with them. When they were shipping horn they had good prices and delivery. However, when I tried to obtain some additional stock from them several years ago, they had stopped shipping to the US. Said that the USDA had given them such a hard time that they did not want to fool with orders from the States any more.

Maybe things have changed and if so, let me know. Whitetail deer antler is marginal for sgian handles, IMHO but if you can obtain some fairly robust crowns they might work.
