    I don't think it matters one bit. Since Jock Scot is absent these days, I'll fill in for him: "You're over-thinking this!" I just really don't think that people put that much thought into it when they see a couple wearing non-matching tartans. Only the nerdiest of tartan nerds would do the mental check to determine what the tartans actually are, and then mentally check their compatibility, and then pass judgment on it.

    Agree with Tobus “you’re over thinking”

    As to the wool issue..... silk silk silk!

    And many different tartan sashes, scarves and shawls to blend in with or the same tartan as your kilts.

    Mmm ..... she might also need some handbags and shoes as well

    Between us, I think my wife and I have about five Mackintosh kilts and skirts. We wear them together all the time. None of them match, either in sett size or colouring.
