    1905 Bespoke kilt jacket with silver buttons

    Hi
    I have a Edwardian Bespoke kilt jacket with solid silver buttons
    With the name E. Robertson 13 Melville place Edinburgh
    Any info on this maker

    Could you post a picture of the jacket, I and I'm sure other, would like to see it. Also, one of the label.

    Thanks photo keeps failing, Its a very nice jacket and waist coat in excellent condition
    with 24 large and 12 small heavy silver buttons all with Edinburgh hallmarks for 1905

    Nice Regulation Doublet. Are the buttons actually silver, or are the 'white metal'?

    How have you dated it to 1905? Hall marked silver?

    E. Robertson was proably the owner, not the maker. The sewing on the label looks quite rough, it also appears to be covering some other wording. I wonder if the original maker's or owner's name has been covered up?

    Yes all the buttons are hallmarked for Wilson & Sharp Edinburgh 1905 - 24 large and 12 small .
    Nothing under the label

    This is what I thought as well this looks like the owners name, it also looks incredibly good given the date of 1905. I find myself wondering if there is another label somewhere else.

    Cant find anything else , even with it been bespoke i expect to find a hidden label

    Given the very find condition, I wonder if it's possibly a case of older buttons being re-used on a newer jacket. It does look great, whatever the history of the piece is.

    Where did you get the jacket? Did your source provide any other information about the jackets former owners or whereabouts over the past century?

    Sorry no history , that's why i was trying to find the maker to match the age , the address is now a hairdressers will do more research on the address

    Towns > Edinburgh > 1846-1975 - Post Office Edinburgh and Leith directory > 1904-1905


    Edinburgh Milk Supply Association, 13a Picardy

    place, 60 Castle street, Slateford road, and
    13 Melville place
