Argyll Jacket & waistcoat from 1900

I have been in talks for this jacket for a few months it finally arrived today just in time for this months Tartan Tuesday. It dates from 1900 so is my oldest piece of kit. I am honoured to be the custodian of this set & will treasure it for the rest of my life.

Very, very nice! And it fits you perfectly! That's a treasure, for sure.

I like the angled cut of the breast pocket; I think it adds a nice touch. In fact, I like that it's a patch pocket too. That's more commonly seen on the older jackets.

I can't really tell what the buttons are made of in your photos. Are they leather-covered?

Yes they are leather covered buttons. Nathan and I were having quite a discussion about them last night. One of the details I’m most fond of is the flap on the waistcoat pocket, though it makes it harder to get to your pocket watch I think it’s worth it.

Here are a few close ups

A great find and fine purchase McMurdo. You are indeed a clothes horse (a compliment, in case the vernacular does not translate across the water - it means you can wear anything and it always looks good).

Crikey that cloth and hue takes me back to the 1940's! Fantastic! I am not sure that any of the jackets that I saw in those days could ever be described as new and could well have started life pre 1900. Sadly that wonderfully striking russet brown is rarely, if ever, seen these days.

It translates just fine for me, but then I grew up in a home with two Scottish parents, they just happened to move to Canada before I was born.

Thank you Jock, I think I have a new favourite jacket and waistcoat I love The russet colour and the comparatively loose weave of the tweed. Having said that, this garment is best worn in a house without the aid of central heating.

That is a great find! Very nice looking outfit and the colour is fantastic!

I have a waistcoat with pocket flaps as well and I really like the look compared to a more contemporary flapless pocket.

Thanks I am really happy with the colour and the condition of the set. The little details are what makes it special from the pockets flaps on both the waistcoat and jacket to the not seen any longer colour, I couldn’t be happier.
