Mine would be a 16 oz 8 yrd wool kilt in either a Watson tartan (Dads family) or a Adams Tartan (Mom's family) . I haven't decided which but we are in the process of designing a new Tartan for Flagstaff county (Alberta not Arizona) so maybe when that's done I would like one of those too.

Hand-woven?
Naturally dyed?
Selvedge mark?
Herringbone selvedge?
Selvedge pattern (as opposed to mark)?
Silber buckles?

There's so much in my fantasy locker.
Good point. If we're talking real fantasies that are near impossible or prohibitively expensive, I'll chime in with two words:
Hard tartan.

Absolutely. Nothing like it.

Whether its a fantasy kilt or just the ultimate goal there is a thin line between the two. An 8 yard, US Army tartan with knife edge pleats to wear at my last Military ball with a dress mess jacket.

My fantasy kilt would be a great kilt in campbell ancient and a version of the kilt I already have (8 yard,16 oz. campbell ancient) that would both be absolutely indestructible.

I just wish the Murray of Tullibardine and MacCallum tartans were available in PV, so I could still wear them even in the dead of summer. I mean, I do have my Murray of Atholl and Malcolm PV kilts, but it's as much about aesthetics as representing my specific heritage. Though if I could afford a custom weave, I'd probably just go ahead and get the "Murray of Scheyichbi" I created on USA Kilts' tartan designer:

Custom woven 16 ounce or more, in one of the pre Culloden MacDonald tartans. I would get Figheadair to arrange the specifics for weaving and selvage so that it would be as period accurate. Probably box pleated, it would need to be of modern construction, so that it would be wearable and not costumee. Hard tartan would be an option but I’m not really familiar with it.

Honestly those things weren't part of my ideal kilt because despite over 40 years kiltwearing I know little of weaving.
I wouldn't know a selvedge pattern from a selvedge mark. It brought to mind Stephen Maturin's tour of the Sophie, and his being confronted by the jargon concerning the various parts of a ship:
You could not explain this maze of ropes and wood and canvas without using sea-terms, I suppose. No, it would not be possible, for it is by those names alone that they are known.
It is wonderful to have you here on XMarks- I've learned so much from your contributions- yet still in truth I know next to nothing about it.
