    Sporran update

So after a bit of thought, I decided to take Tarheel's advice and see about re-lanolinizing the wool fiber on the Icelandic sheep hide used to create my new dress sporran, as it seemed a bit unmanageable and fly-away. Here's what the sporran looked like smoothed down a bit, prior to re-lanolinizing:

I dissolved some lanolin in warm water and applied a few light spritzings to the fiber with a spray bottle, working the moisture through the fibers as best I could.

I was surprised at the way the wool responded as it dried, but think it's an improvement. I think the "curly wool" has a lot more character:

    What say you?

    Absolutely gorgeous!

    Absolutely jealous!

In my addled mind, that's what a goat-hair sporran should look like. Well done!

It definitely makes it look more “goaty” which makes it more obvious that it’s not horsehair or something else. I like the new look a lot more.

That sporran has so many curls it could hold court. Real nice job.

I did not expect that much curl as a result of applied lanolin. I must say, the hair now looks alive and adds so much character to increase the value. Fine job. Bobby

    Goat hai sporran

That is one of the most handsome sporrans I have ever seen! Not only is it gorgeous, but it is unique. You may have caused a wave of "sporran envy" to sweep through the community!
