I have a bunch of antlers here that I've thought of making into buttons, but there's some work involved. They are white tail, Axis, and Fallow. Not Red Stag antlers, but surely they would make suitable replacements for those who want real antler.
Sure I remember someone mentioning using a dog chew antler to make buttons from. Does seem strange that modern tweed jackets use fake antlers, one wonders if it is due to some attitudes towards use of animal based products especially where hunting may have been involved? Either way I think the real deal looks much better and at the price most jackets go for now it is disappointing if the real article isn't used for the buttons..m
