    Sounds exactly like my family!

New Zealand is well known in the piping world of course, many great pipers and pipe bands hailing from there.

The South Island is known too to pipers the world over, perhaps mainly because of the Gannaway firm. I have a Gannaway bag on the set of pipes I'm playing in my avatar.

A warm Scottish welcome from middle England. I'm sorry for your recent bereavement.
My wife and I were delighted with the warm welcome we got on both North and South Islands on our first visit to NZ in 2017. I expect my daily wearing of a kilt helped, it seemed to encourage conversations. We were also pleasantly surprised by the number of kilted gentlemen, mainly pipers, we encountered and also by the selection of different tartans in use for school kilted skirts in Dunedin.

That's me on the right, searching for something for the collection box.

If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Thanks, That photo looks like it was taken in Picton NZ. Good to hear from you - did you find what you were looking for?

Yes. spot on, it was indeed Picton. It was a never to be repeated trip to celebrate joint 70th birthdays, but having got there we both decided we would very much like to go back someday and see more if at all possible.
I expect that, as a canny Scot, I managed to find a couple of coins for the collection box!
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
