Hello and thanks for letting me join. While I am very interested in my Scottish heritage and the culture, my experiences with kilts so far has been limited to utility kilts.
I am very active and have been delighted to discover how comfortable a kilt is for hiking. So far I have worn a kilt for a half-dozen day hikes, and don't ever want to go back to shorts or jeans.
The last three months I have been wearing a lightweight, ripstop kilt to run outdoors. I have discovered via trial and error that 40° is the magic number for wearing my kilt vs. shorts. Anything higher it's too hot, but for anything under (so far down to 25°) it's awesome! Very warm, not restricting, etc. I even ran a personal record in it at a local 5K.
I usually run downtown at lunch, so I get a few "looks", and an occasional compliment. I'm past the IGAF age, so utility over fashion!
