    Thanks

Thanks everyone for the advice. My wife worries about these things more than I do ... but you've just supplied me with the information I need (to answer any of her conceivable questions) if we head out on a windy day.
Trying to look good on a budget.

Always listen to your wife's worries and advice, Karl. Hold her hand as you walk out on that gusty day, keep your other hand resting and relaxed on your sporran and enjoy the sunshine and the windy. All will be well.

Had a pretty strong Santa Ana catch me from behind at a gas station and blow my pleats up. That was fairly lightweight pv tartan though and I don’t think it blew up enough to expose anything.

    Caught my attention though.

In my experience it isn't straight winds that kite a kilt, it's turbulance. I usually follow roughly the same route into the grocery store. If I pass close to the corner of the building when the wind is strong the eddy spins my kilt like a top. However, if I pass a few feet farther from the corner, even when the wind is strong, the kilt only flutters only a little bit. Likewise, when on one of the elevated rail stations in Chicago an upward gust whipped my kilt elbow high, but down at street level in straight wind nothing embarassing -- for others, not me -- happened.
