New Kicks

I've been engaged upon a decidedly lackadaisical hunt for brown wingtip brogues to wear with a belt and [sweater/tweed/unadorned shirt] for a while now. Recently, I stumbled across these:

This did get me to visit our local Nordstrom Rack and they had some nice brown wingtips but only in 13. They were just too small for me.

I too have been lackadaisically looking for brown wingtip brogues for informal kilt outfits. I did find these cheap on Ebay, size 14. They've arrived, they fit, they will do the job.

I know the white soles aren't traditional, and make the shoes look very informal. That's fine with me.

So I've got one of those new shoes next to me as I type this. It's _definitely_ not a closed lace Oxford. I have a pair of those, capped, in black. They're brutally uncomfortable, but they take a nice shine (as I recall from army Oxfords, the top of my left foot has nerve issues that are exacerbated by shoes of this type).

I sympathise with you on that. I had a 2200 lb. Percheron (draft horse) stomp on my left foot when he was nervous about going into the show arena 15 years ago. It broke my foot, and ever since then I've had a tough time wearing shoes that put pressure on the top of my foot. Oxfords tend to hit that spot just right, and it is painful to wear them all day, especially later in the day when my feet start swelling. Bluchers/Derbys are much more forgiving, but not nearly as dressy looking. It's good to have multiple pairs of each style.

My favorite's are a pair of Johnston & Murphy Jennings wingtips with lug soles, but they seem to only have this style available in boots at present.

Shaun those Johnson & Murphy wingtips are great!

As it happens I recently picked up a pair of Johnson & Murphy shoes on Ebay, and I spent most of the day today wearing them, punch cap Oxfords in Oxblood, elegant and comfortable (with my glasses from the 1930s)

Should you decide to darken those soles at some point, I've had success with leather dye.

I s'pose it depends upon their composition, try it on the bottom first
