I had great fun in leading Donald Where's Your Troosers? at a Robbie Burns supper. The audience loved it too. It's a song that can be taken as endorsing no undergarments, or as a satire of no undergarments, making it a perfect way to address that topic.

Speedos refer not just to any swimming trunks, but the really tight, abbreviated ones we associate with competitive swimming. So in the US, they are often invoked as an example of men showing us more than we'd care to see.

Of course, Superman wears his as outerwear. But then he would, wouldn't he?

I found this - https://www.speedo.com/uk/en/solid-l...156916446.html - so it’s not just “budgie smugglers” they sell but I know what you mean.

    Steve,

You are absolutely correct that Speedo makes a variety of swimwear styles. But in common American usage, we say "Speedo" to indicate the really brief ones that many people think are too brief for most men to wear in public

Of course, the US is also home to more than a few nude beaches, so clearly some of us are OK with men swimming in even more revealing "attire."

I had a quick thought: the Cajun maitre'd and a zydeco version of "Donald, Where's Your Troosers?" Sometimes my mind goes odd places.
