    Can you identify this tartan?

I was chatting with a member of a pipe band at the recent Sherman Celtic Festival, and asked him the name of the tartan used for their kilts. He told me he didn’t know and when he’d asked others in the band, no one seemed to recall.

I took a quick photo and told him someone on this forum would surely know.

    Here’s the tartan:

    Please enlighten me!

    Thanks,

    SM

I see the photo. Sorry I don't know the tartan.

But I find it somehow perplexing that a pipe band doesn't know the tartan they are wearing

Yeah, I thought that seemed odd as well. Maybe it was just one guy he asked... Who knows?

I believe this is Earl of Inverness, although the yellow stripes in this example look more green than yellow.

Thanks figheadair! I felt certain you'd be the person who'd know.

I would ascribe this either to older kilts (as in, whoever ordered them is no longer with the band and the knowledge of the tartan name was not passed down), or secondhand kilts (they may not have been told by the previous owner what the tartan was, or the previous owner may have even not known). I assume they're not concerned about possible future replacement of individual pieces?

I'm still perplexed why some see a photo that shows no sign/link of having been posted, and while the rest of us can't.?
