    Which Tartans?

A friend wishes to start wearing a kilt and he has asked me to look into his name and put together a list of any and all tartans he could potentially wear, so he can make his choice of first kilt. His name, Bowick, originates in Northumberland. I am looking for anything that might be related to his name, or that that would be viable choices for him. I have already shown him Canadian national and provincial tartans, but I suspect there are many other potential choices for him to look at.

According to Scotweb and Scot Clans, Bowick is a sept of Clan Borthwick, which has three registered tartans.

In addition, there's always the Northumberland tartan.
Trying to look good on a budget.

Please remind your friend that the Northumberland tartan would make a great vest. It could accent any kilt he will get.

There are also tartans for many groups and associations that may be applicable, such as firefighters memorial, masonic, clergy, sports teams , schools etc. Personally I have been considering a Scruffy Wallace of the Dropkick Murphys
