Oddly enough, when I was in Edinburgh was few weeks back one of the kilt shops I visited was the Celtic Craft Centre - they were in the midst of finalising an order for a pipe band in France - in Ancient MacFarlane - my 3 y.o. recognised the tartan straight away and was very excited about it.

I also spotted another pipeband in MacFarlane Hunting many years ago at the Scottish Highland Gathering and Games in Pleasanton - no idea who they were though:

In terms of a new jacket - the tweed I like is Taransay (below) - Kilts4Less used to do one, but no longer available in my size:

But I also have this jacket from M&S which is also in the ballpark - so thinking about a conversion - there are also a few of these on ebay too - so I can easily pick up an extra to make a matching waistcoat with - might be a fun project...

In the meantime I have 2 tweeds I can use, in charcoal and sage green.

I have a "varsity" style jacket (zip up jacket like US high school athletes wear with their school letters) in the Taransay Harris Tweed and it looks smashing with my kilt. It has so many colors and patterns going on that it ends up matching just about anything you put it with, while always looking energetic rather than stuffy.

Your alternative tweed looks great, too.
