Cheque Cleared
The cheque (check) for my payment to J. Higgins just cleared, which means the kilt must be done! I'll expect shipping confirmation any day now.

I’m waiting on some material due in at the end of the month, so I understand your excitement.

Higgins kilts aren't made at the store front location, but elsewhere in the Kansas City area. I've never seen that site, but have seen finished kilts at the store front. They are very nice machine sewn kilts. Higgins himself I've found isn't familiar with some techniques that Barb or Steve use, so his kilts are pretty much basic, but that doesnt't take away from the quality.
He lists unusual tartans available, like Afghanistan, which might actually have to be special ordered.

I chose him based on the recommendations of some brother Masons I know who all wear his kilts (and they all look grand). From conversing with Steve, I now know that his techniques are less than traditional. If I ever do buy another, I think that I will certainly use one of the X Marks sponsors who follow more traditional lines.

Update
The kilt has arrived.
It's sitting in the apartment complex central office for pickup. I'll get it on my way home from work.

First Impressions
Pics are forthcoming. Wore it to dinner on Friday with my lady but she takes crap portraits (sorry, it's true - she's great with dolls but terrible with full-size people). Planning to wear it on Thursday to my company's quarterly meeting. My boss will insist on photos and hers are much nicer.
- It fits MUCH better than the off-the-shelf acrylic kilt.
- The material feels much nicer.
- The pleats hold their shape and immediately go back to how they should be.
- The nice central red stripe helps me align the buckle, sporran, etc.
- It looks damn nice!
- I got a whole evening's worth of positive compliments from random people at stores and restaurants - mostly women lamenting that their husbands don't wear theirs nearly often enough. I did feel bad for my lady, though, as she looked AMAZING and only a few people complimented her. :/
