David, with new TV and internet programs showing interest in kilted themed shows, the public is now used to seeing a kilt (maybe not in public until you show up). There will be positive questions and nods of approval more often than sneers and blank stares. The more you introduce your kilt to the public, the more accepting they become.
That is my experience (at least here in the mostly uncultured Mississippi).

Thanks for your thoughtful comments and encouragement.
When you go out in your kilt, do you just wear a kilt and the rest being ordinary clothes? What do you do about shoes/socks? Do you have a sporran? Anything else?
It is one thing to wear a full formal outfit to a semi-formal event; I'm wondering about every day wear at the mall, etc?
Tks for any further comments you (and everyone else) might have
David.

Welcome from Inverness-shire.
Interesting comments about Scottish money not being accepted in England. In almost four score years of regularly flitting between the two countries I have only once had a problem with getting Scottish money accepted in England. To be fair, unless an English person has spent time in Scotland they would have no reason to know what Scottish currency looks like,or,if it is even legal tender in England,so a certain amount of caution is not unreasonable.
If you are ever up in this part of the world and would like to meet then give a holler and let’s see what can be arranged, it’s not always convenient of course, but this long standing invitation goes for all members here and I have to say that I have met some charming and very interesting people from this website over the years.

May I ask whereabouts in the broad land generally known as Inverness-shire you hail from?
I'll be overnighting in downtown Inverness on Sept 14th. The 13th in Ft William, and then on the 16th, I'll put my life in dear Calmac's hands and hope to make it all the way to Mull.
But would you be offended to see me in my $20 eBay kilt? Or maybe by then I'll have upgraded a wee bit.
David.

Welcome!
Here is how I dress going out with my wife, when we were in N Ga.
I just use a fanny pack over the shoulder instead of a sporran, although i did just pick up one of these

I am making a paracord sporran "chain" so i havent worn it yet. Maybe this weekend.
