You can expect an amazing experience. This is one of the best events in the US right up there with Grandfather Mountain, Stone Mountain etc.
First BUY YOUR TICKETS ON LINE - the 3 day pass is less than paying for even two daily tickets.
If you are going to be there for the three days Friday is the quietest and the only day for the sheep dog trials which are popular - there will be lots of other things to do as well of course.
Saturday will be the busiest - if the weather is good (which is usually the case) there will be 20,000 people there. The World Heavy Athletics Championships start that day along with all the music entertainers. The opening and massed bands start at 11:30. But you will need to check the list of event at www.nhscot.org to really plan your day. The full schedule gets posted late in August.
Sunday is a bit less crowded but the athletics are still going on and the pipe band competitions etc. Again you will need to check the full schedule.
There is NO parking on site. There are parking lots scattered around Lincoln and N. Woodstock and if you are staying locally check with your hotel to see if the shuttles stop there or nearby. You will also see shuttle stops with signs along the roads. Lots of police to direct you then you take shuttle buses up to Loon Mountain. They drop you right at the gate and you cross the bridge to Loon Mountain. Leaving on Saturday can take a while so don't plan dinner too soon after the games. The organizers really have their act together but with that many people lines are inevitable.
Peter MacDonald - the tartan expert on this forum - will be giving a series of lectures on various tartan topics so look for that.
This year my Clan - Buchanan - is Honored Clan and we are having an International Gathering with our Chief Michael Buchanan who is coming over from Scotland so you will see hundreds of us there. Stop by the Buchanan Tent in the clan village and say hello I'm always there. We usually get an XMarks meet up scheduled so keep your eye out for that.
If you have any specific questions just post them here, I'll be happy to offer advice where I can.
