The Royal Family in Scotland over the years

Some great pictures of the Royal Family and others in kilts, spanning 50+ years.

Gives some good examples of what must surely be about as "official" an approach to kilt wearing as there is.

Fantastic assortment of photos! Thanks for sharing.

Nice to see that the duchess of Cambridge is a fellow 20 fan.

    Hi

I'm very much a newbie here. What is a "20 fan"?

    Tks

Ah, now I've got it. Silly me - I was thinking it was something to do with kilts!

Yes, there have been comments in other forums that I frequent, ones with a more friendly approach to that particular rule, expressing delight at that picture and preferring the Duchess of Cambridge to the Duchess of Sussex, as indeed definitely do I.

One of those photos showed the Duke in a kilt I didn't recall seeing before.

I found another photo showing this kilt to good effect. It's Royal Stewart with a green ground, called King George VI. Looks like he's wearing his Gordon Highlanders tie.

Here's another outfit I don't recall seeing the Duke wear: kilt and bias-cut waistcoat of Balmoral tartan with charcoal tweed jacket. This tie perhaps is Black Watch.

My screen is not giving me a clear picture of the Duke of Rothesay's ties in your pictures above, but the top picture looks more like The Princess of Wales Royal Regiment's tie as I can see no green or black stripe as seen with the Gordon's tie and in the bottom picture it looks more like a Guards tie, on my screen at least, as I can see no green stripe, as seen in the BW tie, in that either.

I think you're right on both counts Jock, Princess of Wales Royal Regimen and Guards'' ties.

I'd love to know who makes all his kilts?
South African military veteran. Great grandson of Captain William Henry Stevenson of the Highland Light Infantry, Scotland (1880's) and brother to Infantryman Peter Mark Schumann of the 2nd Transvaal Scottish, South Africa (1980's).
