    Recent eBay purchases

Back in June, my wife and daughter purchased a dressy silver mounted sgian dubh for me as a Father’s Day gift. The handle is lignum vitae set with a green agate. The blade is carbon steel (and sharp!).

And today, a lovely old L&M Highland raccoon mask sporran I recently purchased arrived. It’s similar in style to the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders badger mask sporrans, only with five tassels instead of six. It’s definitely got some character!

    Cheers,

There are so few sgian that I actually like or would carry, but this is nice and practical. Was it purchased from the maker? I much prefer the agate to all the 'cairngorm' out there.

    Nice score on both counts.

I appreciate the kind words! The sgian was purchased from the maker on eBay. You can see his other available sgians here:

I'd run across the maker and posted links to his available work in Border Collie Dave's thread (http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...27/index2.html) when he was searching for a reasonably priced, dressy sgian dubh. Dave corresponded with the maker, Alan Wilkie, who verified that they are indeed hand made, sterling silver, and of Scottish origin.

That said, while this has a sharp, usable blade, I wouldn't say it's necessarily built for heavy use, though it's certainly functional!

You can see his review of the sgian he purchased here: http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...-wilkie-95022/

Sgians which were originally available on the Ardgowan Distillery site are available for sale on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Signature-A.../dp/B07D173N2Q
