    Outlander tartan compared to MacKay:

    Claire's arasaid

a length of MacKay (weathered colours)

The same portion of the sett compared, first MacKay, then the Outlander design. You can judge for yourself how much in the way of design work occurred.

From the moment I saw the first image from Outlander I said "oh, they're wearing MacKay Weathered!"

The "weathered" colour-scheme, by the way, was invented in 1949 by the weaver D C Dalgleish, therefore being an anachronism by over 200 years.

Thank you for that side-by-side comparison. I'll have to point that out to the missus when I get off work tomorrow morning.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I received my kilt in the mail today. Forgive the casual look...the missus insisted I try it on as soon as the package came in. I must say, it looks much better than I expected a Sportkilt to look, and it is a very comfortable material.

I hope your misses liked the look. A kilt is a wonderful garment. Enjoy yours.

Welcome to the forum. I used to spend a lot of time in Ashville when my son and daughter-in-law lived there but now they are in Lincolnton.

Hope you will find some things of interest here.

Thank you sir! Question for you: what color hoses/flashes do you wear? I'm about to order some, but not sure what to get

With the Mackay Ancient, I typically wear the lovat green with either lovat blue or black flashes. I also like the lovat blue hose with the black flashes and the grey hose with either the lovat green or blue flashes. It all depends upon what shirt I'm wearing. There are so many great color combinations that look great with it.

Thanks for getting back to me. Looks great man. I think I'll definitely go with the Lovat green
