Identify a Tartan from a picture

    Hi All,

I have the below Kilt and I am trying to identify the Tartan. The Kilt is about 100 years old (Great Grandfathers) and I wanted to get additional items with same tartan.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Any chance you could post a larger, better quality photo of the tartan in better light? That photo is tiny and difficult to see any detail.

Possibly MacNaughtan but as Has been mentioned, a better quality image would help.

If this kilt is over 100 years old, I'm sure many of us would love to see some of the construction details of it. Would you mind posting some photos of the strap/buckle connections, the interior lining, the pleats at the back, etc.? We are always interested in seeing older examples of these details.

I do notice in your latest photo that the bottom has been hemmed up. One wonders if it was hemmed originally, or if that was done later for someone who inherited it.

It looks to me like it's done in the "vegetable colourings" that my Highland Dress catalogues from the 1920s and 1930s make reference to, the colourway we call "ancient colours" today.

If indeed made prior to the 1920s it would be the earliest "ancient colours" kilt I've seen.

    Vegetable colourings mentioned in 1936

This kilt, in 1909, appears to be made in vegetable colourings
