    Jack Pyke Shooting Socks

What's everyone's opinion on wearing Jack Pyke shooting socks with a kilt? I especially think their "Harlequin" line looks sharp:

I have 2 pair and each is very tight on my calfs, about like Lochcarrans. There is no wiggle room. My calves aren't huge as they often are on really fat guys, and a few women have told me I have nice legs so I assume proportions are about right, but the socks just dont fit over my calves properly. The last time I measured my calves are around 19-inches.They are pretty socks and reasonably priced. You have to be sure and order your UK shoe size and not American. They are made to be worn all the way up to the knee and the dicing is off for kilt wear. I wish they worked better.

Agree with Benning Boy, that shooting socks are just a little off for kilt wear - just something in terms of style and fit that doesn't do it for me.

However, I do have two pairs of diced hose which I think are great. Made to measure in my choice of colours, so a great fit and great match for my kilts.

Price wise, I am guessing they run at about 2 twice the price of the Jack Pyke socks, not cheap - but a good price for custom made and with the falling pound maybe even better value.

If you like them and they fit, then wear them.

    Exclamation

I have the blue ones in the picture. They were reasonably priced and are comfortable to wear. No issues with the size for me.

I may be proven wrong but I believe shooting socks are a tad longer than kilt hose so you may have to do some extra folding to get the cuffs to the 'proper' height below the knee. I am fairly tall at over six feet and have to get creative with my Lewis to keep my pasty white knees from being covered.

I have looked at purchasing shooting socks, including the style you mentioned but I prefer all or at least high percentage wool.

Upshot is that if you like them and they fit you and your budget then have at 'er.

I have a couple of pairs of shooting socks that I wear pretty regularly with the kilt. For years, they were my go-to kilt socks. Mine have different patterns on the cuff, but make use of contrasting colors, like the examples in your post.

They are a little taller than my House of Cheviot kilt socks, but it is easy to adjust things to where you want them. I bought mine from shootingsocks.com and they are supposed to be all wool. They certainly have the warmth and mildly scratchy texture of a shetland sweater, so wool is definitely the main ingredient.

So if they fit and you like them, there is no reason to hold back.

I like the look of them and the price seems good.
