    That’s a fascinating thought. It would also make sense as wealthy English experienced in shooting would have already been accustomed to and comfortable with tweed.

    I wonder if this line of reasoning could apply to wealthy lowlanders bitten by the bug of Victorian highland romanticism like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle? They also would have lacked highland clan affiliation and, as Scottish romanticists, had even more motivation in owning a kilt.

    Just took some pictures of the tweed kilt mentioned in my earlier post for clarity.

    You can see the wrinkles, even with the weight of the fabric it rumples easily but as I said it hangs out fast. Twenty minutes of walking around and those go away.

    Looking closely at the fabric held up to the light, it has a relatively loose weave which explains why it feels colder in the wind than my worsted tartan kilt (which is much more densely woven).
