As somebody who has played in Pipe Bands for 40 years, I will say that the band heard at the start, at 10:17, at 18:00, at 25:24 etc is exhibiting musical selections and tuning that are well below what is heard with today's mid-level and higher-level bands.
I like watching competition videos, where you can hear and see the bands, see the kilts and the tartans and all.
Here's one of the world's very finest bands competing at the Worlds. Bands tend to play at their best in competition.
