What is it, and how do I wear it?
Got excited and got ahead of myself... Picked this up at quite a reasonable price, and now, not only do I not know what it is, I've no idea to wear with it. Doesn't seem to be room for a waistcoat, and a belt seems highly improbable. That being said, I'm utterly clueless. Does anyone recognize this style? I'll know more once it gets here in a week or so.
Thanks all!
Darryl

Without further information, such as what it was described as, my first thought is a military mess dress coat. Military version of white tie.

I would suggest what you have is something of a "one-off". The jacket length is reminiscent of an Eton or mess jacket, although this particular jacket is double-breasted. Because it is double-breasted, it would be worn without waistcoat or belt. IMHO.

Interesting... Mess jacket, Spencer; more research to be done! This was just described as a 'kilt jacket,' so I'm afraid that's all I have to go off of. Thanks again!

Military mess jackets and their formal wear variants are normally single-breasted and worn with a waistcoat.

I agree that this looks like a bespoke garment and one that is meant to be worn fastened, possibly with a belt depending on the length and fit.
It could look rather elegant and I rather like it although I'm not a belt fan.

Greatest appreciation for the help thus far. :-) Here's a photo of what appears to be a very heavy lining, if that helps with anything...
Best,
Darryl
