    Here are some options

    Rlail,

Here are some options for you...

    Sgain
    In your kilt hose
    In your sporran
On your sporran if you adapt it to hold the sgian underneath or on the side
In any other garment that has a pocket that will fit it

    Pocket Knife
I will sometimes wear a folding knife in my kilt hose instead of a traditional sgian
    In your sporran
On your sporran if it has pocket clip
In any other garment that has a pocket that will fit it

You have flexibility if you want to use it.

My Kilt and Sporran are enroute; that's kind of what I was thinking, that I'd find a way to attach a sheath to my blade of choice

Some may scream heretic, but I carry a leatherman-type multi tool in my hose, excluding formal events. I typically have it with me daily, kilt or trousers. I find it is more practical and easier to keep in place than a Sgain Dubh; and it doesn't poke through my hose like the sgain does.
The shear convenience of being accessible without fumbling through sporran or pockets is great.
If wearing scrunched socks or going on long hikes, then I would place it in my sporran to ensure it is not lost.

Why would you even think of that? It's simply not culturally correct. Now I understand that culture is constantly changing, but for me, I would be much more likely to not wear a knife in my hose than to not wear hose. The knife being worn there being a relatively new fashion trend in the overarching timeline of Highland fashion.

I say this next bit with some trepidation. I am not trying to be a kilt kop, but there are just some ideas and practices that are all the result of people who did not grow up in Highland Culture, and think they can just pick and choose the parts they like and discard the rest. I find it disrespectful. No one can really stop you from doing anything you want, but no one has to force anyone else to applaud your decisions either.

Mull this over, think about what are your motivations for doing what your doing. I hope you come around to following tradition, respecting the cultural dress of, well I would hope the dress of your ancestors.........

^^^Definetly! I don't plan on using hose and Brogan's for casual wear, more like boots. The Sgain is just a knife, no different than a boot dagger, really. No disrespect meant, I was just going for function

The idea being more for rough woods work, with like a 511 tactical kilt, that I would acquire in the future

May I ask, Rlail, what is the function of a sgian for you (forget the dubh part)? To slice an apple? Skin a rabbit? Stab a foe? Decorate your leg? Add a bit of mystique?

Please understand, I am not being combative and simply asking.

In other threads you have been asking sincere cultural questions (and I hope, receiving equally sincere answers). In this one you seem to have diverged from the culture somewhat.

I wonder if you are not seeking a tool for which the sgian may never have been considered. For the field (and 'woodcraft', I love Russels). For Traditional Highland Civilian Dress, a sgian dugh. As a pocket knife, IMHO, nothing beats a Swiss in one of its myriad forms.

Form following function, I suppose. From this traditionalist's point of view.

All of the above, really! Everything from Rabbits, Apples, to mistique. and I dropped the Dubh just for shorthands sake. A dirk, it would seem to me, is poorly suited to most outdoor work, The Sgain would clean animals better, I think. The Dirk seems long enough to be too awkward for most purposes

Just trying to stay in line with the kilt, I guess. A good CRKT or fixed blade buck is my usual go to, and maybe I should just stick with it.
