    Couple of Jackets on eBay

Having spent too much over the holidays (and really, probably having too much tweed in my closet anyway) has not prevented me from searching for kilt jackets. Not going to bid on these but thought maybe someone here might be interested.

    Blue tweed

    Brown and Black Houndstooth

Very nice. I’ve been keeping an eye out for a 46r

There have been some pretty nice jackets popping up on eBay lately...

Here are a couple that I snagged in the past few days, as I had a little Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket. 😋

A 1960s Argyll tweed (brown, green and cream) with gauntlet cuffs:

And a green check Argyll from Highland Industries of Inverness, also with gauntlet cuffs:

    Happy hunting!

    Cheers,

Both are very nice! I was half keeping an eye on the green check; great addition to your collection!

I look regularly for size 50 vintage tweed kilt jackets, though few appear.

What comes up are Prince Charlies and/or jackets in 50 Short (I'm 6'3").

We'll be competing on jackets, I see.

It's also worth keeping an eye on Etsy. This one is particularly nice, albeit small formost here I suspect - here.

I recently picked up a lovely pre-1930 Evening Jacket and Waistcoat complete with 1927 hallmarked silver buttons.

This jacket is very obviously bespoke, what I find interesting are the proportions. I fits me across the chest and shoulders but is short and the arms so much so that they are some 3-4" too short for me (I'm 5' 9" and wear a standard 33" sleeve). I can't see how this would fit anyone but the most odd shaped individual. Fortunately the quality is such that all the buttons are attached using circle rings and so I can transfer them over to my 1942 Meyer & Mortimer Regulation Doublet.

Do you intend to have the sleeves let out or will you pass it on? I should think given your other doublet that you would have no need for it

Looking at the jacket again I discovered that there are a series of buttons on the inside of the sleeve which would have been for jabot style lace cuffs, hence the sleeve length. That sort of Levee style is dated and not to my taste so I don't plan to go down that route. cut of the jacket aside, it's really the buttons that are of interest for me as the maker, J. R. Gault & Son, whilst well known as a button manufacturer, did not usually made civilian ones, let alone in silver. So a rare find indeed.
