Newbie Rocks up to start another whole new learning process.

Hi to everyone on X Marks the Scot,

Thanks very much for the open door.

I'll be 60 this year for the first time. . . . Along with all the other skills and experience, I have been getting back into some sewing. I used to sew with my Mum as a boy in the 1960's and 70's.

Last year I bought an industrial Brother machine for a bit of canvas work, and a really nice Elna 2nd hand for some softer fabrics. I been sewing some luxury scarves from second hand silk blouses and dresses from the charity shops. I forgot how much I learned as a boy and got straight back into it.

Now I want to make myself a nice Grey Wool Kilt with some brown leather straps and buckles here and there. Having found it near impossible to locate decent instructions, I have been reading the excellent advice on the forum and requested to join.

    With best wishes to all.

    Don.

It will depend on what type of kilt you want to wear but perhaps the best start would be to learn about what goes into the Iconic, hand stitched kilts first.

"The Art of Kiltmaking" by our own Barb Tewksbury is perhaps the best beginning. This will give you the best foundation into what a kilt is and how to make one.

A bit different from most sewing projects.
