    2020 Queen Mary Scots Festival

    Any XMarkers going?

I'll be there all weekend with the Long Beach Pipe Band

I'm on the left, tall with a grey beard, if you see me come up and say hi.

I'll have a flask of very nice single malt to share.

but Francis contacted my son and asked him to compete in the stones of strength during the games so I'll be there watching him and shooting the games. Sad thing is he barely fits his kilt now (the last time he got one he weighed 220 now he's in the 250s) so he'll be suckin it in all weekend.

The band competed yesterday, beaten as we expected by the talented youngsters from Glendora High School.

The scene is not unlike that of a football game involving a top High School athletic program when Glendora plays, because Glendora trains a continuous supply of excellent pipers and drummers who must leave the band at graduation and are scouted by all the local adult bands.

I just thought I would add a footnote to this thread:

Little did we know that this would be not only our first, but perhaps also our last, Highland Games of 2020.

The Phoenix Games just barely squeaked under the door- they were held the very weekend the entire country began shutting down. Sadly, our band didn't attend Phoenix. Had we only known!
