Today I saw a TV ad I hadn't seen before. It was for golfknickers.com, which of course sells golf knickers. However, they also sell knee ,length Argyle pattern socks made entirely of cotton and synthetic material. They may be of some interest to all, but especially those allergic to wool.

There are some truly hideous ones on there, but some of them look quite nice. And it's darn near impossible to find anything good in anything but wool. Definitely looks like it'd be worth a try. Thanks for posting!

I have bought socks from golfknickers.com before. They offer a truly amazing selection of colors, so there will be something to match nearly any outfit or tartan.

The socks are very affordable and arrived very quickly. They were perfectly comfortable, serviceable socks.

However, they were definitely much thinner than typical kilt socks. They felt more like the somewhat sheer black dress socks that many men wear with suits. So they will show off your legs, but won't give you the thick turn-down at the top of traditional kilt hose. I also found that they wear out more quickly.

So for those seeking an affordable alternative to wool, or those looking for a lightweight kilt sock for hot climates, the golfknickers socks are worth trying out. Just be aware that they will be thinner than your House of Cheviot hose or British shooting socks.

So, I ordered two pairs. Here are some pictures (apologies for the terrible picture quality - I'm quite shaky and have a difficult time taking pictures indoors):







They are quite thin (as I expected), but they're considerably taller than I expected. I can actually fold them over a couple times at the top, although it's still the same pattern, so you have to fold them in kind of a Z cuff instead of a rolled cuff. Overall opinion: they're a little busy for common use for me, but they're not at all bad. I'd probably wear them once in a while, but I like my solids. I just wish they had some that were maybe a little more subtle color combinations.
