There are a number of images of a very young Franklin Delano Roosevelt wearing a kilt, which was a popular look for boys a century ago. Here is one from the FDR Library:

And I found this curious cartoon of FDR's Scottie dog, Fala, wearing a full daywear ensemble:

I don't know if any more recent US presidents have donned the kilt, nor am I aware of FDR dressing in one as an adult. But I would love to see an image if anyone has one.

    Conservative Leadership Candidates Kilted

Here are some photos of Erin O’Toole and Peter MacKay, the main contenders for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada, both kilted in social media posts they made for Tartan Day. Obviously MacKay is of Scots descent and O’Toole Irish, perhaps he is Scots as well but I don’t know. Rather unfortunate displays of Prince Charlie’s but oh well.

I'm glad both of the Conservative gentlemen seem comfortable kilted. However, their attire doesn't seem so "conservative," since they both seem to think the Prince Charlie is daywear, rather than formalwear. One doesn't even have a tie with his.

But they've taken that first big step and worn the kilt in public. So over time their style will evolve. Perhaps they will even join the Rabble.

Can't see too well on my phone, but is that BW cummerbund in the second photo? As I say, can't see the detail.

I suspect it is a waistcoat. There seems to be "satin" lining of a waistcoat visiable.

It appears to be a waistcoat meant to be worn with trousers. Thankfully, it seems that MacKay has undergone a style upgrade:

It seems that the majority of MPs wearing kilts were Conservatives, and most of the Liberal/NDP members were either wearing p@nts or were otherwise improperly dressed, eg in shirtsleeves like JT or wearing a Saxon dinner jacket.
Mind, the CPC had a majority in those days (2011) so they would be more likely to have more properly dressed kiltwearers simply due to numbers.

Reminds me of the Wizard wearing Barbs leggings, a few kilt kamps ago.

Blaikie has an interesting blend of military uniform parts and Saxon attire. 🤨
