    Robert Allison?

I'm 99% sure this is a Robert Allison kilt pin.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Scotti...p2056016.l4276

It has the RA within an oval which is the Robert Allison mark.

    https://www.silvermakersmarks.co.uk/...gow-KR.html#RA

And it's a standard Robert Allison design.

The seller claims the kilt pin is from 1846, none of his photos show the hallmarks clearly enough to see the date stamp.

Being that Robert Allison started in 1938 I'll assume this kilt pin was made sometime after then.

I'm not familiar with Robert Arthur, I'll have to look him up, but I doubt he uses the same stamp that Robert Allison used a century later.

Agreed, Robert Allison. The other giveaway that it is not as early as claimed is the 'Scotland' stamp which is a very 20th century marketing mark.

I contacted the seller to alert them of him of the error. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the asking price compared to the real value, he has not responded.

Good for you.. and also not surprised. A good illustration of buyer beware.

Sometimes these Ebay sellers claim absurd dates for their items and it's hard to imagine that they're that clueless.

Other times I feel a bit sorry for Ebay sellers, especially the ones who don't know anything about bagpipes. Because immediately they get numerous experts saying who they think made the pipes.

Some of these "experts" are truly that, but some are half-informed eejits who give sellers misinformation. The totally uninformed seller doesn't know what to make of it all. No wonder many sellers ignore everybody who tries to help.
