Icelandic goat hair dress sporran in an Edwardian styling.

This is a project I just finished up. It is the first long haired sporran I have made.
I realize this may not be to some people's taste, but I think it does make a statement.
The late chief, Norman MacLeod of MacLeods used to wear one something like this.
It always impressed me when I saw him in it.

I have enough goat hair for one more sporran along these lines.

How would one say 'Wow, gorgeous!" in their local dialect?

It is just a pull string for the pop out pouch. Most sporrans of this type had silk cords to open the pouch. I simply added the tassel because I had one that matched the colour scheme I was working with.

I recently acquired a few square feet of long haired angora goat hide, and your work is definitely inspiring!

Thank you very much. I might add this sporran is made entirely of upcycled materials. Total cost involved about $150 Can.

Might I ask please, where you got the goat hair?

Yes I found it on a home decorator site online. It was a pillow case for a rather large cushion. I bought the case and when it came I had enough material for two sporrans. The cantle I made from a vintage silver plated frame, cut in two and re worked a little. Two cantles. I think the hair pillow ran me US $40.96 plus shipping.

The crest was the most expensive element in this project.

You should try one Bill. It would look grand with your Montrose.

Thanks Phil. I'm in the midst of a project with one of our advertisers, but I just thought that particular patch of hair was unbelievably beautiful. I could go for that!
