The holiday is called Independence Day. I'm not sure why people call it by the date instead of the name. Do they also wish people a Merry December 25th?

Sorry, pet peeve of mine. Happy Independence Day to my fellow United Statesians!

No apology necessary Father Bill, all the regular folk in the United States know what July 4th means.

    Cheers,

Reminds me of s quiz I have seen a few versions of to see if you can read through some ridiculous questions. One of the questions was "Is there a 4th of July in England"?. This of course played on the use of the date (which is universal) as opposed to the holiday (which is not).
