Hello all,
I've been lurking here for a while so I thought it was time to say hi. I was directed to this forum from TAoK, and I've found it to be full of great information and nice folks. I'm a long-time kilt wearer, mostly in the context of piping and pipe bands, but recently I have taken an interest in kiltmaking and tailoring more generally.
My Scottish connections are somewhat unusual for an American, as my family emigrated from Scotland in the 1960s and I grew up with my native Scottish family members in our home. My father was the first family member to be born in the US, just a year or so after they got here. We are MacDonalds and MacGregors, though I don't think anyone in my family is particularly connected to those identities. I have yet to find a single photo of one of my ancestors from the "old country" in a kilt, and I have a lot of photographs. Happily, kilts seem much more popular among my contemporary family members (all in the Edinburgh area).
Thanks for welcoming me to the forum!
