I imagine a brooch intended for a woman might be more what you're after, then, if the "women's" designation doesn't bother you (unfortunately, it would bother some people just on principle).

It would probably help widen the search a bit. I tend to try to find a pin that matches each kilt and keep it with it, but I've ended up defaulting to generic axe or sword pins on a few of my kilts due to not finding a good match.

Been considering trying my hand at casting my own kilt pins out of pewter. Seeing the variety of them out there from that other thread has raised these thoughts even more frequently than previously and given me some ideas for designs. Should be more than doable - casting pins would certainly be easier than some of the reproduction parts I've cast for my old vehicles.

Casting your own pins could be a good option.

In the meantime, plenty of agate brooches around (price varies hugely from a couple of bucks to hundreds) but these type of things could easily be pressed into service as kilt pins:

How did this thread go this far without someone posting this example of sartorial excellence? Granted, this is not a brooch or clan crest. But as to the base question of whether a circular(ish) kilt pin is in good taste, yes it can be.

Well, I'd say that's a pretty definitive answer.

Also, I noticed the XMTS kilt pic in the top right corner of the forum demonstrates it quite well. Hadn't even noticed that before I asked about it.
