Welcome to the forum. As a relatively new wearer of the kilt myself I can assure you that you will find a great deal of helpful information from the members here.
And I must add that you live in a lovely part of the world. I had the opportunity to cycle around Croatia a couple of years ago. I'd move to Korcula in a heartbeat if I could, especially as the Canadian winter now looms.

Certainly I've heard of Croatia! Some prominent people in the world of sports from there of course, and I've had Croatian co-workers (there's a fair number of Croatians here in California).
One thing I find fascinating is the same red/white check pattern seen on the Croatian flag has, for 200 years, been worn on the bonnets of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.
What I don't know is what the traditional Croatian folk costumes look like.
I played in a Bulgarian band for many years and it was striking how certain motifs would show up nearly the same in Scotland and Bulgaria.
Here, the most obvious thing is the use of red & black or red & green tartan, but also there's the patterns of turned rings on bagpipes, and the use of the concentric circle motif. Do Croatian costumes have these things?
