2020 Emmys
Daniel Levy is winning numerous awards for Schitt's Creek. He wearing a Saxon coat and a grey plain cloth sort of kilt. It seems to be pleated all round with longer pleat length in the back. My wife called a kilt with tails. A bit odd but some designer's idea of a modern kilt.

Who said it was a kilt? Just because it has some folds? Probably just a skirt. After all, he is gay.

My first reaction when I saw the photo: "What the *bleep*!"

I saw the photo and wondered if he were wearing a kilt backwards (as sometimes happens in these sorts of celebrity events) or if it was some other sort of man-skirt design. It is unfortunate that the jacket is so long, since there was clearly quite a bit of effort and tailoring put into creating the outfit.
The socks also seem to be an odd choice to me, but it's clear that the gentleman was not seeking a traditional kilt look. Therefore, my expectations and taste are not really all that relevant to this situation.
It is good to see a man who is unembarrassed about wearing something other than pants on national TV, even if his style is very different from mine.

I like the top part of the suit, and the fabric is nice, but that kilt design doesn't do anything for me.
I, and probably most people here, think it would look better with overlapping flat front aprons and pleats in the back, and the same length all around.
Years ago I saw a Utilikilt made of shiny black fabric (satin?) that was lower in the back than in the front. The maker stated that it looked more "formal" that way, and was marketing it to wear with a tuxedo top for formal events.
I thought it just looked strange.

Daniel Levy's outfit at the Emmys
That outfit is from Thom Browne, and the style seems to be referred to in a number of places as a kilt. Not surprised that that jacket looks perfect given the source.
It is an homage to the series finale, very similar to the outfit that the character he plays was wearing at his wedding.
I think he looks great, personally, and I think that the garment he's wearing is hard to mistake as not being a kind of kilt, especially given the rest of the outfit. Not really my style, but I think he pulls it off well.
Odell Beckham, Jr wore the same garment in black to the Met Gala last year.

Heavens cribbins and help ma boab
All I see in this photo is someone who couldn't find a search light to hang over him, so he wore this outfit. He is more to be pitied than scorned.

I saw the pictures and thought “things that make you go mmmmmmm”
This thread lead me to some quick research via google images.
I discovered ....
They are pleated skirts, they are unisex, they have a trouser fly and waist band.
So nothing to do with a kilt. (Thankfully)
What I did notice is that they are rather badly tailored IMO
The Thom Brown aesthetic isn’t my cup of tea, but there really isn’t any excuse for such bad tailoring and workmanship from someone purported to be a high fashion designer with his own atelier.

Well, now. That's...something. It's certainly a thing that a person wore. But I'd be quite disinclined to call that a kilt.
