Welcome from Michigan as well. I'm a wee bit north of Kyle. Now the real question, don't I remember Harrogate from the stories of Yorkshire's most famous veterinarian?

Thanks for the welcome Brian. Yes, IIRC we get a mention or two . Harrogate is only about 20 miles from Thirsk, which is well worth a visit for a Herriot fan. There is a reality show on UK television called "The Yorkshire Vet" which is based in the area and an easy watch if you can find it in the USA. A new television adaptation of the books recently ended as well - lots of fun for locals playing "spot the location" . We're in a very fortunate location. The cities of Leeds and York are nearby, with the Dales on our doorstep to the north west and the North Yorkshire Moors in easy striking distance to the north east. Decent consolation for not being in Scotland

We do indeed have it on US television and my wife is devoted to that show!

Yes we are anxiously awaiting the new show debuting here.

Being in Greater Los Angeles "spot the location" is a game here too, because the Hollywood studios will film locally no matter where the show is supposed to take place. For example one old downtown LA street where they changed all the licence plates on the parked cars to Illinois plates, changed the shop window signs, because the street was supposed to look like Chicago for a TV commercial.

Yes indeed! And in addition to all the wonderful things you name, there's also (for history nuts like my wife and me) Hadrian's Wall and all those Roman forts, some of which we've visited.

The new adaptation debuted on PBS tonight. A beautiful place to live. You are blessed.

Welcome from New England, USA! I was raised in North Yorkshire, half my siblings born there as well. Going back (and heading Northways past the border again ) has been on my bucket list ever since we left. Hope you're enjoying it there. - Kam

I'm sure you would feel right at home . We are seeing signs of spring after what feels like a long winter. The snowdrops have been out for a week or 2 and the crocuses have made their usual sudden appearance. A particularly cold spell came to an end last week - literally in the space of an afternoon - and since then the woods have been full of birds . Hope you and yours are coping well with the New England winter.

    Regards, EEM.
