That's me exactly.
I've never owned utility kilts etc. My Highland outfits are expensive clothes, equivalent to suits in expense and trouble, and not for housework.
Actually my Highland outfits are more akin to an orchestra musician's tuxedo, being what I must wear when somebody is paying me to play. I don't think orchestra members wear their tuxedos while doing chores at home- they want to keep them neat and clean for their next gig.
The professional musician not only takes off his bow tie when he gets home from work, but changes out of his entire formal outfit.
