Fergus Scottish Festival - Cancelled 2021

Just received the email stating the Fergus Scottish Festival will cancelled again this year! They are going to do another "Virtual" event this year over the August 13 to 15, 2021.

How many other festivals are going to be axed again this year?

    From the email:
"The Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games would like to announce its plans for the 2021 Festival year.
In 2020 we were devastated that our event was cancelled and our 75th Anniversary postponed but we were thrilled to create and present a virtual event, the successful Wee Digital Ceilidh, as well as community engagement activities to “Paint the Town Tartan” in its place. Virtual attendance matched in person numbers and feedback was overwhelmingly positive. From the Wee Digital Ceilidh we learned that we can adapt in uncertain times and do what we do best – host a world class Scottish Festival and Highland Games, regardless of the format.
Moving into 2021, our Board of Directors and staff continue to monitor COVID-19 developments and projections for the year ahead. With careful consideration, we have acknowledged that a live event like our traditional Festival with crowds in the thousands is unrealistic in the current and unprecedented pandemic situation. Our priority continues to be the ongoing recovery efforts and ensuring that our guests, volunteers, competitors, performers, clans, sponsors, and community are safe and healthy so they can enjoy ‘Scotland without the Airfare’ well into the future. As such we have made the proactive decision to not host our 2021 Festival in person live event. Instead encourage everyone to save the date for August 13 – 15th as we present our second ever virtual Festival and Highland Games. Should pandemic restrictions allow we will explore opportunities to add modified live components.
Our virtual event will continue to bring guests the best the Festival has to offer and will feature our four pillars – Heavy Events, Highland Dance, Clans & Heritage, and Pipes & Drums as well as special features and Festival favourites from through the years. Stay tuned to our website and social media channels for announcements and updates as we have some surprises in our sporans to help us celebrate the 75th Anniversary 2.021!
The Festival is grateful for the steadfast support we received last year and heading into our next, albeit different, Festival season. We look forward to sharing our best with you in 2021. Until August, stay safe.

'Was wondering about the Chicago Festival only a day or two ago.

"Thank you" for the advice of its being cancelled; 'will not get hopes up.

The snow and ice will probably not be melted by mid-June, anyway, there is a LOT of it, here.

I'm on their mailing list and I heard the bad news earlier. I hope that the Festival will emerge out of the other side of this natural disaster more or less intact. It might even be swarmed in 2022 due to the pent-up demand.

Of the two games that I attend regularly (Pleasanton and Woodland) one is on hold and the other is cancelled. Those are big games that require a lot of planning ahead of time, so it's possible that some of the smaller games near me (Dixon, Fremont) may be able to pull it off on shorter notice.

That being said, the Monterey games are a go (for now) and are selling tickets online. I don't normally make the trek down there but that may be my only option this year if they actually happen.

All these games are in CA and I think we have some of the stricter covid rules compared to other states. But with our guv facing a recall, he has started to back off on some of these restrictions, so it's "wait and see" out here.

Looks like tickets for the Monterey Highland Games (if held) will go on sale April 1.

It's good to hear that you've licked the virus. We still have a ways to go.
